Claudia Louise Rossman

August 11, 1948 — October 13, 2012

Claudia L. Rossman, 64, Kindred Transitional Care and Rehabilitation, Greenwood In., left the confines of her damaged body and entered into her forever life in heaven, free of wheelchairs and oxygen tanks, on Saturday October 13, 2012. She was born to Claude and Mildred Rossman on August 11th, 1948 in Indianapolis. The 3rd of 7 children, she is survived by siblings: Sue Howard (Gene, deceased) of Murphysboro Ill, Claude Rossman, (Billie), Sandra Bach (David), James Rossman (Vickie), all of Indianapolis, Michael Rossman (Carolyn) of St. Ann, Missouri, and Cindy French (Bob) of Indianapolis. Other survivors include 5 Nieces, 1 Nephew, 3 Great-Nieces, and 5 Great –Nephews. She was employed at Community Hospital East in the food services (cafeteria) department for almost 30 years retiring in 2004. She was a 1967 graduate of Arsenal Technical High School. In lieu of flowers, please make a memorial contribution of cash or small gift items to the activities director of Kindred Transitional Care and Rehabilitation, Greenwood, or of any nursing home in your community. Claudia was a Nursing Home Patient since 2007 when COPD and Diabetes robbed her of her mobility and independence. She was a Breast Cancer Survivor. She was a very social person and enjoyed lifelong friendships with many former co-workers. She especially enjoyed doing jigsaw puzzles, and was a frequent winner playing rummy and BINGO. You have no idea how much winning a small prize/trinket means to a nursing home patient whose joy in life is limited to whatever activities offered at the facility, as well as any time family and friends can visit with them. Unless you have a close friend or family member in a nursing facility, you cannot conceive how isolated and lonely they feel. Teach your children compassion by taking them to visit a nursing home patient. Consider "adopting" an elderly or disabled resident as a "bonus" grandparent. An hour a week could be the most memorable investment of their lives. Volunteer your youth group to entertain at a facility. It will be great practice for them, and you won't find a more appreciative audience. Claudia was a kind and gentle soul and will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Her infectious, gap-toothed smile could brighten even the darkest day. She never forgot to send a birthday, anniversary, or get well card or neglected to buy a baby gift, even for people she hardly knew. She asked for little, gave much, and will be remembered warmly by all who knew her. Visitation will be from 4p.m. to 8 p.m. at Flanner & Buchanan – Washington Park East, 10722 E. Washington Street on Tuesday October 16, 2012. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday October 17, 2012 at 2 p.m. at the funeral center. Burial will take place at Washington Park East Cemetery.
