Claudette Yvonne Compton, 86, of Indianapolis, passed away on Saturday, September 4, 2021. She was born on January 2, 1935, in Roanoke, Virginia to the late Thomas Alfred and Louise Catherine (Saunders) Dickerson. Claudette was a 1953 graduate of Lucy Addison High School in Roanoke. She married the love of her life, Raymond Compton in 1956 and they celebrated 56 years of marriage before his death in 2013. Claudette and Raymond moved to Indianapolis after Raymond became employed by the United States Postal Service in Indianapolis.
Claudette worked for the Democratic Party, supporting Governor Evan Bayh, the office of Ann Delaney, and a dedicated poll worker. She then was employed at the Marion County Sheriff’s Department in the Central Records department. Claudette transferred to the office of Marion County Sheriff’s Department of Special Investigations as the Investigation Secretary. She retired in 1997 from the Marion County Sheriff’s Department of Special Investigations.
Claudette was an avid bowler, enjoying the Wednesday morning and Tuesday evening Women’s leagues at Hindel Bowling Lanes and All Star Bowl. She enjoyed annual trips to Las Vegas and to the West Virginia Casino. Claudette was a very active in Warren Township PTA, school treasurer, volunteering at her both daughters’ schools and various church task forces. Claudette enjoyed watching the Indianapolis Colts, Indiana Pacers Basketball, Indiana University basketball, and Notre Dame football.
Claudette is survived by her daughters, Monique (Bob) Nelson and Mylissa Compton; grandsons, Aaron, Arrick and Andrew Nelson; sister Shirley Taylor; nephews, LTG Darryl A. (Erin) Williams and Michael A. (Lisa)Williams and cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; devoted husband; and brother-in-law, James “Dickie” Taylor.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, September 18, 2021 from 10am-12pm at Flanner Buchanan – Washington Park East with a funeral service immediately following. Burial will follow the services in Washington Park East Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be given to the Alzheimer’s Association.
