Clarice Jean Lucius

Clarice Jean Lucius, age 99, passed away in Carmel, IN on December 19, 2017. Jean was born July 14, 1918 in Advance, IN to Dudley and Hazel Caplinger. She attended McMurray College, earned her R.N. in Chicago and was a U.S. Navy Nurse during World War II serving at Great Lakes Naval Base. In Chicago, she met Army Air Corps pilot, Edward Lucius and they were married in 1943. After raising their family, Ed passed away in 1981 before they were able to enjoy their well-deserved and anticipated retirement together.

Ed’s career allowed them to live in many different cities where she was active in Women’s Club. Jean was a strong, self-reliant woman and a loving mother and grandmother. In 1995, she moved to Carmel, IN to be closer to family. She was active in Carmel Women’s Club and church Circle groups. Wherever she was living, she spent many hours in her garden. Her flowers were her pride and joy.

Jean is survived by her children: Edward Lucius of Ft. Collins, CO, Mary Jean McKown (Jack) of Carmel, IN, Lee Anna Miller (Mike) of Anderson, IN and Carol Sell (Don) of Littleton, CO. She is also survived by 7 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren. In addition to her husband and parents, Jean was preceded in death by her brother, Victor and grandson, Mike McGarvey.

Jean was a member of Orchard Park Presbyterian Church since 1995 where she developed many friendships and was active in women’s groups.

Her family would like to extend a special thanks to her wonderful caregivers at Sunrise on Old Meridian and Great Lakes Hospice.

Services for Jean will be at 12 noon Wednesday, December 27, 2017, at Flanner Buchanan – Carmel, 325 East Carmel Drive. Visitation will be from 10:30 a.m. until service time. Donations in Jean’s memory may be made to Orchard Park Presbyterian Church.
