Clara B. Pile

April 2, 1933 — January 12, 2024

Alameda, CA

Clara B. Pile, age 90, passed away peacefully in Alameda, CA surrounded by her loving family on January 12, 2024. Born on April 2, 1933 to Vivian (Sewell) and Arthur Priddy in Big Wells, TX, she graduated from Southwest Texas State Teachers College (1955.) She then taught first grade until meeting the love of her life, Stafford Pile, when he was stationed in Wichita Falls, TX. They married on June 25, 1960 and moved to Indianapolis.

Clara was a loving wife and a devoted mother to Cindy and Stephanie, cherishing the family she helped create. She ensured that her daughters studied music and dance, taking them to their many lessons and faithfully attending recitals and performances. She was a Girl Scout Leader, an active PTA member and a welcoming hostess to her daughters’ friends, making their home a popular hangout spot. She loved to travel and was fortunate to visit many different countries with Stafford during their nearly 59 years together. She was also a dedicated member and president of the Day Nursery Auxiliary and, with Stafford and other members of St. Pius X Parish, co-founded the Tamarindo Foundation, traveling to El Salvador over a dozen times. “Inspired by faith & grace to break the chains of poverty and forced migration in El Salvador,” the foundation continues to focus on spiritual care, community, education, employment and healthcare. Through this work, she met John Guiliano who became her son and his daughter, Rose, who became her granddaughter.

Clara is survived by her daughters Cindy Pile and Stephanie Pile of Alameda, CA, nieces Tracy Priddy, Mary White, Grace Schroer, Marty Olson, Beth Newman, Laura Schroer and Therese Schroer and nephews John Priddy, John Benton Mallay, Wally Mallay and Michael Mallay.

Clara is preceded in death by her beloved husband Stafford, sister Betty Mallay, brothers Pierson Priddy, Harold Priddy and Jean Priddy, sisters-in-law, Bertie Jo Priddy and Grace Ann Schroer, brother-in-law, James Schroer, nephews Bruce Priddy, James Schroer, Jr. and Fred Schroer and nieces Jo Priddy and Betty Carol Mallay.
