Obituary

Christopher Scott Hood, 61, of Indianapolis, Indiana, passed away peacefully at home on May 22, 2026. He was born on June 11, 1964, in Gary, Indiana.

Christopher was a graduate of Indiana State University, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree. His academic achievements laid the groundwork for a successful career in engineering, where he applied his organized and thorough nature with great effect. As a project manager, he was known for his ability to manage complex tasks with meticulous care, ensuring projects were completed with exacting standards and efficiency.

Those who knew Christopher would describe him as a man who lived life on his own terms and in his own way. His keen attention to detail and steadfast commitment to his work were matched by his desire to forge a path true to himself. His personality reflected the qualities of an engineer—methodical, thoughtful, and deliberate—yet always uniquely his own.

One of the most treasured memories he shared was during one of his beloved vacations in Alaska, where he proposed to Dorothy Abernathy, the love of his life. This moment stood out as one of the happiest days he experienced, symbolizing both his romantic spirit and his ability to create meaningful, lasting memories.

Christopher is survived by his loving wife, Dorothy Abernathy; stepdaughter, Katie McNeely; and many other family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Ronald and Susan (Honaker) Hood.

A memorial gathering will be from 2-3pm, Sunday, June 7, 2026, at Flanner Buchanan – Carmel (325 E. Carmel Dr., Carmel, IN 46032) with a memorial service at 3pm.

In lieu of flowers, please make memorial contributions in his name to your local Humane Society.
