Christopher Alan "Chris" Mortell 27, of Carmel, passed away surrounded by his family on September 23, 2012. Beloved son of Rebecca and Craig Mortell, Chris was born June 13, 1985, in Indianapolis. He attended Mary Castle Elementary School, Clay Junior High School, Carmel High School, and graduated with a certificate of completion from Westfield High School. Chris was kind, friendly, loving, optimistic, and had a wonderful sense of humor. He was loved by many. It was a joy to be in his presence. In battling brain cancer as a toddler and again as a young adult, Chris showed a maturity well beyond his years. Through the Internet, Chris's story of strength and courage spread across the world. To quote from one of hundreds of cards of support sent to Chris and his family, "It is amazing how his life and story, a mere ripple in the ocean of eternity, has created such waves across the globe." Chris was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, John Mortell, and his maternal grandparents, Rosemary Walker and Isaac Newton Walker. He is survived by his parents; sister, Dr. Kelly Mortell; fraternal twin brother, John Mortell; paternal grandmother, Agnes Mortell; and several uncles, aunts, and cousins.
