Christine Rae Spragg

November 9, 1960 — August 3, 2023

Plainfield, Indiana

Christine Rae Spragg. 62 of Plainfield, Indiana passed away on Thursday, August 3rd at home with her loving family and loyal friends by her side. Chris was a dedicated daughter, granddaughter, and wife, but her role as mother to Robbie and Kelsea and grandmother to little Paul was her shining glory.

Chris was born on November 9, 1960. She attended Brownsburg schools K-12, graduating in 1979. She then put herself through IUPUI working multiple jobs to become a Radiation Therapist. She worked at Community East, Saint Vincent’s and Hendricks Regional Health until she retired in 2018 due to her struggle with ALS. Her compassion and empathy for her patients and their families brought comfort to many of them and in some cases resulted in lifelong friendships.

Chris had a zest for life. She was a beautiful, vibrant woman who had many interests and ran many half-marathons with her friends and family. As her battle with ALS progressed, she was not able to participate in many things that she loved to do, but she still continued to go out with family and friends and stayed active. She went to movies, plays, out to eat, to craft fairs, took trips to Virginia to see her grandson and even took a trip to Florida with her best friends from high school. The people who loved her made this all happen, even though ALS made the logistics very difficult.

Chris was preceded in death by her mother, Iris Rainville, and her father, Harvey Spurr. She is survived by her husband of more than 35 years, Tom Spragg; her son, Robert (Luisa) Spragg; her daughter, Kelsea (Jacob) Spragg; grandson, Paul Spragg; her 2nd Mom, Sue Spurr; sister, Becky (Travis) Nelson; brother, Bill (Carrie) Spurr and many nieces and nephews who loved her dearly.

The family would like to thank Chris’ IU Hospice Care Team, the staff of the ALS Clinic at the IU School of Medicine, and Dr. Jean Holder, Dr. Geoffrey Halverson and Dr. Michael Gossweiler of the IU School of Dentistry for their care and support during this difficult time. In addition, we would like to thank Julie Stanley and Toni Martin for the tender care and friendship they provided to Chris as her caretakers.

Visitation will be held on August 10, 2023, from 4-8 pm at Flanner Buchanan Decatur Township and August 11, 2023, from 10-11am at St. Ann Catholic Church 6350 S. Mooresville Road Indianapolis, IN 46221, where there will be the Mass of Christian Burial at 11am. Burial will be at Fairfield Friends Cemetery, Camby, Indiana. Although ALS is a cruel disease and took her life after a 5-year battle, it never took her grace, humor or dignity. She has been an inspiration to all of us, and her spirit will live on. If you would like, donations can be made on Chris’ behalf to the Indiana Chapter of the ALS Association at Donate to The ALS Association Indiana Chapter
