Mrs. Christine Jackson, 95, of Indianapolis, Indiana, passed away on Tuesday October 22, 2024. She was born on September 19, 1929, in Simmons, West Virginia, to the late Noble and Rosa Dickerson. Both parents and two siblings (Sister Mozella & Brother Frank) preceded her in death.
Christine (Dickerson) Jackson attended elementary school in Princeton West Virginia. Relocating with her Mother to Indianapolis, while a teen she attended Crispus Attucks High School
In 1949 she married Ernest N. Simpson Jr. (deceased) and from this union, their son Ernest N. (Butch) Simpson III was born. In 1957 she entered into holy matrimony with David Jackson (deceased) and in 1965 they lovingly added to their family her second heartbeat. The love of her life, a beautiful baby daughter Tajuana Dione.
Affectionately known by her family as Grandma Chris, Christine was known for being gracious, kind, funny and the SWEETEST WOMAN you would ever want to meet. Her Zion Hope Baptist Church family loved her deeply and she cherished them. A member for 20+ years she was in regular attendance for Sunday school, morning worship service and Wednesday afternoon Bible Study. She was a long time faithful member of the Senior Usher Board, the Stiches of Praise and the Missionary Ladies Birthday Club, ministries.
Christine indulged in a multitude of interests including cake decorating classes, gardening and crossword puzzles. She tinkered around with the art of Stain Glass, making lamp shades, window ornaments and stepping stones for flower beds.
However, her main passion was for sewing. This included crocheting, embroidering and making quilts from scratch. Most recently… just about everyone she knew, was the recipient of a homemade cloth grocery or wine bottle bag, whether they asked for it or not.
Grandma Chris could be found spending time on her computer, playing solitaire and watching cooking videos. Chris believed in big kitchens and all the gadgets they came equipped with. There’s just one thing though… she hated to cook!
In 1956 Christine became employed by RCA (Radio Corporation of America), eventually being promoted to a Fabrication Supervisor. She retired after 33 years of long work days and hard work.
Holidays with her children and grandchildren were the highlight of her life. Christine was able to mark off Bahama cruising, trips to Disney World in Florida and visiting Niagara Falls from her bucket list. In her later years, she was always ready to sit down with senior neighbors to play a friendly game of Bid Whist & Spades. Chris will be truly missed.
She leaves to cherish her precious memory; Her son, Ernest “Butch” (w/Ruby) Simpson III; his daughter Nicole Blane (her children; Aysha & Jayce)
Grandsons; Todd (his children: Brittany Simpson & Lashuna Boatman) & Brandon Simpson (his son; Teddy).
