Christine Ervin

September 15, 1947 — May 14, 2024

Indianapolis

Christine Ervin (lovingly known as “Chris” or “Tina”) was born September 15, 1947, to Arthur Hudson (deceased) and Minnie Hudson (deceased) in Indianapolis, Indiana. She attended Indianapolis Public Schools as a youth, graduating from Crispus Attucks High School. After graduation, she received an associate degree from the University of Indianapolis.

She dedicated her life to Christ at a very early age and was baptized at Metropolitan Baptist Church. Christine faithfully attended with her beautiful mother, father, brothers, and sisters throughout the entirety of her childhood and into young adulthood. She later became a member of Friendship Missionary Baptist Church playing an active role in the church and assisting with the planning for the building of the current church sanctuary. She last attended Eastern Star Church and was a member for many years.

Christine married the love of her life, Howard Jerome Ervin on December 6th, 1969, at Metropolitan Missionary Baptist Church. They were married for 51 years and treasured their connection until he passed on from this world on September 9th, 2021, into God’s loving arms.

Christine had a lifelong love of shopping and clothes. She was the epitome of style. Christine had exquisite taste in clothing, home décor, and fashion style and we must not forget the hair. She also loved flowers and meticulously landscaped the yard of her home each year with great diligence every season. Many of us remember the “Charlie Brown” tree that she grew into health. Some of her favorite flowers and plants were ferns, hydrangeas, and beautiful yellow lilies.

Another unique gift of Christine’s was her love of celebrating Christmas each year. It was always an annual celebration that brought much joy and argument. As it was tradition for Howard to purchase the tree on April’s birthday on December 15th, despite her adamant protest to have the tree sooner. She put great love and expense each year into making the tree and their home beautiful in preparation for special family celebrations.

Christine began her career at Merchants Bank and later transitioned to Indiana Bell in 1981 in the typing pool. She quickly advanced at the company as a district secretary and soon became a supervisor in the Network Administrative Center. She was well-loved and appreciated at the company and developed many lifelong professional and personal friendships. After many years of service at Indiana Bell/Ameritech she chose to transition her career and became a realtor at FC Tucker. She was excellent as a realtor in working with people, as well as, the public. She later established a career with Nordstrom as a “super” salesperson and supervisor of the St. John department. Christine was the salesperson of the week, the month, and the year constantly while at Nordstrom. She was the epitome of a Renaissance woman.

Christine Ervin departed this life on Tuesday, May 14th, 2024, at the age of 76. She was preceded in death by her husband Howard, her parents, two sisters, and three brothers. She leaves her son Wayne (Tiffanie) Ervin, daughter April Ervin, grandsons Wayne Ervin II and Kendrick Michael Ervin, granddaughter LaShay Ervin four great-grandchildren, her sister Barbara Henderson, brother Carl (Denise) Hudson, and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.

As a family, we will dearly miss our mother. She was such a very special woman. Our comfort comes from knowing that she is now resting in the loving arms of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Her salvation was secure and she is now rejoicing in heaven and enjoying a regal reunion with her husband, parents, brothers, sisters, family, and friends.
