Christine Bassler

December 8, 1932 — January 31, 2014

Chris Bassler died peacefully on Friday, Jan. 31st surrounded by those she loved. She was born Christine Andrea Doner to Jeannete and Herbert Doner. Her older brother Tom and wife Cary of Cary IL, survive. Her beloved husband Robert "Bob" Bassler preceded her in death. She was born December 8, 1932 in Detroit, Michigan and grew up in Chagrin Falls, Ohio. She attended Denison University in Granville, Ohio where she was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta Sorority and met and married her husband. They lived their young married life in Newark and Granville, Ohio. Bob's career took them to Europe for 8 years where Chris fully immersed herself in the cultures of Belgium and England where the family lived. While in Europe she and the family travelled extensively. She and her husband returned to the U.S. in 1976 to live in Ashtabula, Ohio. Chris and Bob finally settled in Zionsville, Indiana in 1983, where she lived until 2001. She then moved to Indianapolis, IN. Chris was a superb cook and entertainer who spent many years cooking grand dinner parties for her family, friends, and guests. She attended Cordon bleu Cooking School in both France and Hungary. She was also very creative and made beautiful floral arrangements and needlepoint. Chris was a member of Psi Iota Xi, the Embroiders Guild and active in the Friends of the Library. Chris will always be remembered for her quick wit, her love of family, and her gracious hospitality. She will be dearly missed by her family. Surviving are her son Tod Bassler and wife Dawn of Indianapolis, daughters Cary Haber and husband Christopher of Kalamazoo, MI, Kate Gress and husband John of Noblesville IN and Anne Goldsmith and husband William of Zionsville IN. She has 5 grandchildren and one great grandchild. A private family ceremony will be held prior to calling hours. Calling hours will be from 4-7pm Wednesday February 5th, 2014 Memorial contributions may be made to the American Lung Association.
