Chong C. Olson, 81, of Indianapolis passed away on October 28, 2026. She was born in Seoul, South Korea on April 23, 1945, to Si Woo Lee and Bok Dong (Cho) Lee. Chong lived a full life and her end was sudden and unexpected.

Chong is survived by her children, Sharon Olson Ochoa and Paul Olson (spouse Cheryl). She is survived by grandchildren John Patrick Houston, Christina Houston, Maximo Ochoa, Pierce Olson and Talia Olson.

She is also survived by her brother, Edward Lee and spouse Kathy Lee and their children Jimin (Kris) Kumamoto, Susan (Mark) Bishop, Audrey (David) Baker and John (Lindy) Lee.

She is preceded in death by her husband Alvin George Olson, who were married May 12, 1965 and enjoyed over 42 years together. She is preceded in death by two grandchildren, Cherise Houston and Miranda Olson. She is also preceded in death by her parents and a younger brother. Chong's father was taken prisoner during the Korean War, and the family only saw him one time after his capture. His date of death is unknown. Her brother passed away tragically in an accident around heavy equipment.

The days of reconstruction in Korea were difficult and the family struggled but got by on the wages of their mother being a seamstress.

Chong met Alvin, an America soldier, at a small gospel meeting in Seoul and their relationship grew into marriage. She came to the United States, first at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri and then Denver and finally Indianapolis.

She loved dancing, singing, playing godori, and crying during K-dramas. She found a way to be generous on the salary of an enlisted man, and loved to feed people, cajoling them to eat more and accusing them of not liking her food.

Chong was loved and will be missed.

A visitation will be held on Tuesday, November 3, 2026, from 10AM-12PM at Flanner Buchanan-Washington Park East, 10722 E Washington St., Indianapolis, Indiana, 46229. A funeral service will begin at 12PM. Chong will be laid to rest in Washington Park East Cemetery.
