Charlotte Grimes

Charlotte Grimes, 87, of Indianapolis, passed away on Thursday, August 2, 2018. She was born on March 12, 1931 in Sumner County, Tennessee to Herschel and Bessie Sherron.

Charlotte was the picture-perfect example of a hard-working family woman. She married her sweetheart Wilbur at a young age, and from this union came four wonderful children; Steven, Thomas, Kimila and Michael. For many years, Charlotte worked nights at RCA pressing records while raising her family.  This allowed her to be with her children during the day when Wilbur went to work.  She was very committed to her family and wanted to make sure that their parents were always around and that they would never need a babysitter.  She would eventually advance within the RCA company and move on to clerical work before retiring after many years of service.

Charlotte was an animal lover throughout her life. Not only did she raise love birds for local pet stores (which she would play soft piano music for), but her children recall having all sorts of pets around the house from dogs and cats to raccoons and flying squirrels! She would spend most of her free time tending to her garden. She loved plants and loved to be outside working in the yard. If there was a spot of grass somewhere… she would plant some flowers on it.  Charlotte was creative.  She loved arts and crafts, making candy and decorating for holidays.  She remained a little girl at heart and her collection of dolls filled multiple shelves in a bedroom.  Charlotte was also known for her quirky traveling habits. She and Wilbur wanted to drive EVERYWHERE! So, they did……but only for a short period of time. Sometimes only to drive through to say they had been there! The only two places Charlotte had not been able to travel to were Alaska and Hawaii.

Charlotte took care of her family throughout her entire life.  She was a loving and devoted caregiver. After raising her own children, she helped care for her grandchildren.  They all have special memories of silly and fun times spent with her.  When family became ill, Charlotte was the caregiver for her own mother and her husband. When her son Tom became sick at the age of 54, she was by his side the entire time. This level of love and devotion for others would not go unreciprocated, for when she started to suffer from illness, her two daughters-in-law, Joyce and Tammy, would be right by her side all hours of the day. They loved their mother-in-law and Charlotte absolutely adored them in return.

Charlotte was a feisty and strong-willed woman throughout her lifetime and she will be greatly missed.

Charlotte was preceded in death by her parents, Herschel and Bessie Sherron; her loving husband Wilbur; her three sisters, Kathleen Roach, Enola Walls and Martha Pauline Hughey; and her dear son Thomas.

She leaves behind to cherish her memories her two sons, Steven (Joyce) and Michael (Tammy) Grimes; her daughter Kim (Michael) Dineen; her 10 grandchildren,  Steven Jr. , Brian, Sean, Chelsea, Josh, Jake, Will and Kat Grimes, Kelsey and Ryan Dineen; and her 8 great grandchildren.
