Charley “Wayne” Blackwell was born March 9, 1950, in Tiplersville, Mississippi to Frank and Shirley Blackwell. Charley was the oldest of their six children. Charley accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized. He is preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Shirley, brother, Frank Blackwell, Jr., and by his only daughter, Angela Blackwell. Charley leaves to mourn his passing his wife, Linda Blackwell, his son, Christopher Blackwell, sisters, Lue Hilliard and Shirley Johnson, and brothers, Milton Blackwell and Willie Blackwell, all of Indianapolis, along with three grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews. He also leaves his cherished dogs, Levi, Sammie, and Brandy, who were his constant companions and always by his side.
Charley was an avid golfer; he truly loved the sport and attended many tournaments. He loved sports of all kinds and riding his beloved Harley. He worked for Indianapolis Fire Department for 34 years, retiring in 2007 as Lieutenant. In retirement, Charley loved gardening and was very proud to show off his green thumb. He loved entertaining friends and family by hosting cookouts and holiday gatherings. He also enjoyed cooking and his “mean greens” were a staple at gatherings.
He was truly loved and will be deeply missed.
