Charles Davies Underbrink

Charles (Charlie) Underbrink, a beloved father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on September 22, 2026. Born on October 19, 1939, Charles was the cherished son of Elizabeth King Underbrink and Iranaeus Underbrink. He was preceded in death by his dear brother, Tom Underbrink, and both parents.

Charlie grew up in Spring Green,Wisconsin, where he was valedictorian of his graduating class from Spring Green High School in 1957. He pursued his interest in chemistry at the University of Wisconsin, earning both a Bachelor and a Master of Science degree. His dedication to his field led him to a distinguished career as a chemist at Eli Lilly, where he contributed his expertise for 30 years.

Outside of his professional life, Charlie was known for his unique personality and singular sense of humor. These qualities endeared him to all who knew him, leaving lasting impressions on friends and family alike.

A lifelong motorcycle enthusiast and fervent auto racing fan, Charlie enjoyed the thrill of the race and the freedom of the open road. He logged countless miles on his motorcycle travelling throughout the American West.

Charlie is survived by his loving children, Peggy Underbrink, Barbara (Dana) Gnagy, and Joe Underbrink. He was a proud grandfather to five adoring grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, all of whom will continue in his spirit of humor, curiosity and good will.

In honor of Charlie’s life and his enduring commitment to science and the environment, donations may be made to the Union of Concerned Scientists, an organization he deeply respected.

Charlie will be remembered not only for his professional achievements and personal passions but also for the warmth and laughter he brought into the lives of those he loved. His memory will be cherished by all who knew and loved him.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, October 1,2026 from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m.at Flanner Buchanan - Washington Park East 10722 E. Washington St. until the time of service at 2 p.m.
