Charles Lee Steadman, 82 of Charlotte, NC, formerly of Carmel, IN, passed away Friday, August 8, 2025. Charles was born July 13, 1943 in Wheeling, WV to the late Charles Walter and Marjorie Steadman. He was a graduate of the University of Pittsburgh where he was a manager for the basketball team, a member of the marching band and received his degree in civil engineering. Upon graduating, Lee served in the US Army.
Lee had a long career in engineering working for Dravo, Miles and Mobay, which were acquired by Bayer Pharmaceutical. Lee served as the Manager of Design, Construction and Engineering for more than two decades at Bayer until his retirement in 2005.
Throughout his life, Lee was a devoted and loving son, husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend. His faith was a constant in his life. Active in the Presbyterian church, he served faithfully as a youth advisor, Sunday school teacher and as a member of the SAWS team at Second Presbyterian Church in Indianapolis. In addition, he was an avid golfer, an occasional fisherman and enjoyed a good Bar-B-Que.
Family and friends are invited to gather from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm on Thursday, August 21 at Flanner Buchanan-Carmel, where a service celebrating Lee’s life will begin at 1:00 pm.
Lee was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Sally. He is survived by his children, Charles W. “Bill” (wife, Beth) Steadman and Lee Ann (husband, Scott Lowe) Steadman; grandchildren, Sara and Emily Steadman, Aidan Lowe and Morgan (husband, Ryan) Dunnavant.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or the American Cancer Society.
