Charles S. “Shelby” Capps
85, of Indianapolis, passed away on April 28, 2016. Shelby was born in Burkesville, Kentucky on August 21, 1930 to the late James Leslie and Agnes C. (Hoots) Capps. Shelby, a veteran of the US Army, served his country honorably during WWII. He retired from the warehouse industry. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend. He enjoyed casinos – especially rolling dice and betting on the dog races, working in his yard – tending to his roses, and vacationing in Florida.
Shelby was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 64 years, Mary C. (Burrello) Capps; brother, Welby Capps; and sisters, Helen Hewitt, Zelmie Gross and Betty Goodwin.
He is survived by his children; Charles "Shelby" Capps (Valerie), Shelley Gordon, Gina McGowan, James Capps (Sharon), and David Capps (Lisa); 15 grandchildren: Charles Capps, Jennifer Arney, Mari Capps, Jonathan Capps, Tara Hefner, Pam Maloof, Donnie Rigdon, David Rigdon, Scott Ridgon, Michael Rigdon, James Capps, Amanda Capps, James "Brian" Capps, Travis Capps, Logan Capps and 28 great-grandchildren.
Calling will be held from Noon until 2pm, Tues., May 3, 2016 at Flanner and Buchanan- Memorial Park, 9350 E. Washington St, Indianapolis, with his funeral service immediately following at 2pm. Entombment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.
