Charles S. Brown

Charles Stephen Brown, 82, of Indianapolis, IN passed away peacefully in his home on Wednesday, July 7, 2021 surrounded by his loving family.

Charles was born February 22, 1939 in Bethpage, TN.  He was the son of Shirley Brown and Annie Laura Martin. He grew up on a farm in Rock Bridge, Sumner County, TN, and moved to Indianapolis in 1957 at 18 years old with his family.

In 1959, he began his 42-year career at Western Electric / AT&T / Lucent Technologies retiring in 2001 with 16 of those years being spent in Columbus, OH.  He graduated Arsenal Technical High School in 1967 through a Western Electric adult work program.  He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1962 and was assigned to Company E, 3rd Battalion, 6th US Infantry.  He was stationed in Berlin, Germany during the Berlin Crisis to keep peace and was honorably discharged in 1964.

He enjoyed spending time with his family and playing golf.  His hobbies included restoring his 1966 Ford Fairlane convertible, collecting antique telephones, tending to his yard, and reading his Bible. He was a member of The Creek Church on the southeast side of Indianapolis.

Charles was a loving Father, Papaw, Brother, Uncle, Son and friend.  His memory will live on through his daughter Debbie Brown Harker and her husband Steve Harker, along with grandsons Chase A. Harker and Chandler S. Harker.

He is preceded in death by his parents and all his siblings; Erlene Burnett Pitts (Kenneth), Perlie Veola Hoover (Charles), Everett Edsel Brown (Helen), Herbert Elam Brown (Jean), Lois Laurene Rogers (George) and Wanda Joyce Ausbrooks (Perry).
