Charles Richard Ham

Charles Richard Ham 81, of Indianapolis, died suddenly on March 10, 2013 while visiting friends in Palm Coast, FL. He was born December 12, 1931 in Washington, IN to the late Harold H. and Lillian M. (Rose) Ham. From October 1951 to October 1955, during the Korean War, Charles served his country as a member of the United States Air Force. His maternal ancestors (Roosa) were among the early Dutch settlers of New York and can be traced in The Netherlands to the early 16th century. His early paternal ancestors (Ham (m)) emigrated from the Rhine Valley in Germany and served during the Revolutionary War. He worked as a computer programmer, analyst and independent consultant for several Indianapolis area companies before retiring. He is survived by his wife, Mary Sue Stranahan Ham; a son, Steven Richard Ham of Indianapolis and a granddaughter, Elizabeth Rose (Todd) Teeters and her son Daniel Regnier, of Martinsville Indiana. Also surviving are sisters Marilyn Hendrickson; Rose (David) Hutton; Iona Ortiz of El Paso, TX; half-siblings Diana (Alvin) Skomp, Daniel (Dicie) Ham, Mary Anita (John) Jones, John (Lou) Ham, Patricia (David) O'Connor, Lee Ann (James) Wurster, Lorri (Neal) Starner; and sister-in-law Roberta Presnal. He was preceded in death by brothers Robert and William Ham and half-sister Lisa. He will be greatly missed by his friends and his many nieces, nephews and great-nieces and nephews on both sides of the family. Calling for family and friends will be from 4 – 7 p.m. on Sunday, March 17 at Flanner and Buchanan - Carmel. There will be no services. Cremains will be interred at Crown Hill Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Butler University, St. Vincent Hospice or a charity of the donor's choice.
