Charles "Charlie" Edward Kendall

Charles "Charlie" Edward Kendall, 86, of Indianapolis, passed away on September 25, 2026. He was born in Cincinnati, Ohio, on October 23, 1939, to Mary Lee and James William Kendall. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, James William Kendall Jr.

Charlie graduated from Broad Ripple High School in 1957 and Indiana University in 1961, where he was a member of Phi Kappa Psi fraternity. From 1974 to 1984, he served as Director of Construction for Methodist Hospital (now IU Health), where he oversaw the hospital's move of its operations from Capital Ave. to Senate Blvd. He then served as Vice President of Geupel DeMars Construction from 1984 to 1994. In 2000, Charlie converted the former administration building at Fort Benjamin Harrison into The Harrison Inn, a boutique hotel listed on the National Register of Historic Places, which he owned and operated until 2008.

In 1969, Kentucky Governor Louie B. Nunn named him a Kentucky Colonel. Charlie had a lifelong passion for soccer. He served as co-chairman of soccer for the 1987 Pan American Games and was inducted into the Indiana Soccer Hall of Fame in 2012.

He is survived by his loving wife, Becky; sons Daniel (Debbie) Kendall of Logansport and Kevin (Sheri) Kendall of Fishers; daughters Mary Lee (Stuart) Bollock of Lafayette and Kelli (Eric) Tromiczak of Indianapolis; and stepdaughters Natalie (Marco) Goss of Indianapolis and Hannah (Jeffery) Wachs of Los Angeles.

Charlie loved Butler and IU basketball, IU soccer, and the Indianapolis Colts, but nothing brought him more joy than his 21 grandchildren: Cassia, Jarrod, Kendall, Ian, Alexander, Nick, Elijah, Matthew, Joshua, Ethan, Jeremy, Isaac, Tanner, Kayla, Beatrice, Antonio, Lucia, Marta, Sylvia, Judith, and Shoshana. He was also blessed with five great-grandchildren: Charlie, Alice, Ryder, Isla, and Adrian.

A private memorial service celebrating Charlie's life will be held for family and invited friends.

In lieu of flowers, Charlie requested that memorial contributions be made to one of three organizations meaningful to him: the Indiana Soccer Foundation, the Alzheimer's Association, or IndyHumane (Humane Society of Indianapolis).
