Charles James

Charles Edward James, MD, 79, of Brownsburg, died peacefully on November 9, 2012. He was born September 10, 1933 in Logansport, IN to Clarence E. and Wilma (Voss) James. He was united in marriage with Lita J. (Wilson) on September 22, 1956 in Bath, ME. Charles served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. After his military service, he attended Indiana University, Bloomington, IN and Indiana University Medical School, Indianapolis, IN graduating in 1963. Dr. James was a Family Practice Physician from April, 1964 to June, 2007. He was actively involved with St. Vincent Hospital, Indianapolis, IN as past President, St. Vincent Hospital Medical Staff, past Board Member, St. Vincent Hospital Foundation, and past Medical Director, St. Vincent Primary Care Network. Dr. James was a member of the Indianapolis Medical Society, Indiana State Medical Association, American Medical Association, and the American Academy of Family Physicians. Charles acted as a delegate to the Indiana State Republican Convention, 1968. Dr. James was a physician truly dedicated to his patients and he embodied the values of St. Vincent Hospital and the Hippocratic Oath. He loved family and friends. Charlie enjoyed fishing, gardening, reading and playing euchre with his grandchildren and friends. Two favorite locations that filled him with joy were Boothbay Harbor, ME and Sanibel Island, FL. Survivors include his wife, Lita; his daughters, Sabin Sullivan and son-in-law Mortimer J. Sullivan of Waltham, MA; and his daughter, Heather Quilhot and son-in-law John W. Quilhot of Zionsville, IN; his grandchildren, Christopher and Harry of Waltham, MA, and Betsy, Grant, Amanda, and Sam of Zionsville, IN; and other nieces and nephews. Also surviving is the newest member of his family, his dog, Queen. Charles was preceded in death by his son, Christopher Edward James of Carmel, IN; his sister Virginia (James) Barnett, his nephew, Bradford B Barnett; his grandnephew, Charles J. Barnett; and his parents, all of Logansport, IN. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Brownsburg Meadows Activity Department, Brebeuf Jesuit Preparatory School, St. Vincent Hospital Foundation, or a charity of choice. The funeral service will be held 11 am Tuesday, November 13, 2012 at St. Luke's United Methodist Church,100 W. 86th St. in Indianapolis, IN. Interment will follow at Zionsville Cemetery, Zionsville, IN. Friends may call at the Flanner and Buchanan-Zionsville from 4PM to 8PM, Monday, November 12, 2012.
