Charles (Spud) Lewis Jacobs passed peacefully in his sleep January 14, 2026 in Titusville, FL. Spud was born July 19, 1930 in Anderson, Indiana to Louis Arnette and Ruth Yvonne Jacobs. He attended Arsenal Technical High School in Indianapolis, Indiana.
Spud joined the Navy in 1948 and was stationed aboard the Newport News, CA-148, of which he was also a Plank Owner. After 5 years of Naval Service, he received an Honorable Discharge as 1st Class Petty Officer, Machinist Mate in 1953.
Spud worked for the Indiana Gear Works as a Machinist from 1953 to 1972.
Spud married Clara Faye Jones in 1954 and they were together for 64 years until her death in 2018. They had four daughters, Carolyn Evans, Marna Shuppert, Sharon Haynes, and Michelle Clifford.
Spud worked for the Naval Avionics Facility, Indianapolis as a Machinist, Model Maker, and Progressman for the Model Shop from 1972 until retirement in 1990.
Spud was also an avid gardener, enjoyed camping, boating, and fishing. Spud enjoyed playing guitar for a number of years and also played the banjo, ukelele, and accordion.
Spud is preceded in death by parents Louis and Ruth Jacobs, wife Clara Jacobs, and daughter Sharon Haynes. He is also preceded in death by sister’s Jaqueline Cochran and Beverly McCaslin. Spud is survived by daughters, Carolyn Evans (and Randy Evans), Marna Shuppert, and Michelle Clifford (and Bill Clifford); there are also 8 surviving grandchildren.
Arrangements will include visitation, January 28, 3:00-4:00pm for family members and from 4:00-8:00pm for friends and guests.
January 29th visitation from 12:00-1:00pm followed by funeral service beginning at 1:00pm. There will be food and fellowship following the service at Flanner Buchanan-Washington Park North.
