Charles H. Dippel, 90, of Indianapolis, passed away peacefully, Sunday, April 17, 2016 at his home surrounded by his family and his caregiver for the last year, his granddaughter Kelsey. Charles was born August 18, 1925 in Indianapolis the son of the late Virgil and Margaret (Watts) Dippel. He graduated from Howe High School in 1943 and served in the US Airforce during WW II in the Pacific. He started working for Indiana Bell, later Ameritech, in 1946 and retired as an Engineer in 1987. Upon his return from WW II, he married Violet Rose Mathews and remained a faithful and devoted husband for 67 years until she passed away October 16, 2013. He was also preceded in death by his sons, Chris and Kevin. Charles was a Craftsman having built 2 of the family homes. He was a very skilled woodworker and incorporated many unique features into the family homes. He remained very active and played handball and went to the gym well into his eighties. Charles was a very hardworking and loyal person and instilled this in his family.
Survivors include sons, Curtiss (Valarie) Dippel, Kent (Carol) Dippel, 4 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren; his sister, Frances Perry and numerous nieces and nephews.
A celebration of Charles’s life will be held 2:00 PM, Friday, April 22, 2016 at Flanner and Buchanan-Memorial Park, 9350 E. Washington St., Indianapolis, IN 46229. Visitation will be held 2 hours prior to the service. Burial in Memorial Park Cemetery.
