Charles "Chuck" Andrews

September 10, 1950 — February 7, 2026

Charles “Chuck” Andrews, age 75, passed away on Saturday, February 7, 2026, in Sebring, Florida, after a courageous battle with brain cancer. He was born on September 10, 1950, at Lake View Hospital in Danville, Illinois.

He had a personality that could light up any room. He never met a stranger and was known for his warm smile, infectious laugh, and deep love for his family and the life he built. Wherever he went, he left people feeling like friends.

Chuck was a proud United States Marine Corps veteran. After attending Vincennes Lincoln High School, he proudly enlisted in the Marine Corps on December 24, 1968, in Chicago, Illinois, alongside his cousin Kenny. He served during the Vietnam War and earned the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, and Vietnam Campaign Medal. His pride in his service never faded—he was rarely seen without his “Vietnam Vet” or Marine Corps hat or shirt on. He especially loved attending Veterans Day school programs, echoing out an enthusiastic “Oorah!” when the Marine Corps Hymn was played.

He was a lifetime member of the American Legion and the VFW, as well as a member of AMVETS. After moving from Fishers, Indiana to Sebring, Florida in 2021, he fully embraced retirement as a member of Golf Hammock Golf and Country Club. He could be found on the course four days a week surrounded by friends that felt like family.

Chuck and his wife Patty enjoyed traveling and went on many cross-country trips in their RV over the last 10 years.

They traveled up and down the west coast and visited many national parks. A trip to Alaska in 2019 enabled him to achieve a life-long dream of visiting all 50 U.S. States.

He was a devoted sports fan with unmistakable loyalty. A lifelong Chicago Cubs fan, he supported them through every high and (mostly) low—proof of true dedication. He proudly supported the Miami Dolphins, often wearing Dolphins hats, shirts, and his unforgettable zebra print Miami Dolphins pants. He was also a loyal Indiana University fan and treasured getting to witness their football national championships win this year ––something he never thought he’d get to see in this lifetime.

Charles was preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Barbara Darnell.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 20 years, Patricia Andrews of Sebring, Florida, who stood and served faithfully by his side to the very end. They shared a life filled with love, laughter, travel and lots of golf! Daughters, Julie (Jay) Deweese of Zionsville, Indiana; Melissa (Michael) Segal of Boiling Springs, Pennsylvania; and step-daughter, Meagan Hickey of Indianapolis, Indiana, whom he loved fiercely and was endlessly proud of. Being a husband and father were roles he cherished deeply. His guidance, humor, and unwavering support will continue to live on through his family forever.

He is also survived by his siblings: Barbara (Bob) Burton of Vincennes, Indiana; Jackie (Jeff) Deckard of Vincennes, Indiana; Brenda (Kevin) Emmett of Lawrenceville, Illinois; Zylphia (Brian) Stout of Freetown, Indiana; and Claude (Kathy) Darnell of Ellettsville, Indiana.

One of the greatest joys of Chuck’s life were his grandchildren, some who affectionately called him “Papaw Cycle,” a nickname earned from his lifelong love of owning and riding motorcycles. Being their Papaw was one of his proudest roles and nothing brought him more happiness than time spent with them. Whether sharing stories, laughter, or simply being present, he made each of them feel deeply loved and special. Victoria, Ty, Parker, Caroline, L.J., Roslyn, Bram, and Lane were truly the lights of his life, and his love for them will continue to guide and surround them always.
