Charlene Elizabeth (Brown) Marquiss, age 87, Resident of Indianapolis/Carmel area since 1955.
Born in Bryan, Ohio, on March 15, 1924 to the late George A. and Lottie (Slough) Brown.
Charlene graduated from Ohio State University with a B.A. in Journalism. She worked as a newspaper reporter on Clarksburg, W. Va., Telegram and the Kokomo, Indiana Tribune. She sang with The Roy Lee Orchestra under the name Sherry Vaughn in Kokomo. Charlene was a charter member of Orchard Park Presbyterian Church. Served as circle chair, women’s association president, president of board of deaconesses, and elder. For the first nine years of the church’s growth, she edited the newsletter; also was a member of the Chancel Choir and was church school teacher. Charlene is married to Bernard P. Marquiss, and mother of Gregory P. Marquiss and his wife Carol and Susan (Marquiss) Andrews and her husband Mike. She is also survived by two grandchildren Nicholas P. and Kristen N. Marquiss. Services will be held on Thursday June 9, 2011 at 11:00 am at Flanner and Buchanan Funeral Center – Carmel, where friends and family are invited to gather from 9:30 am till time of services. Burial will follow at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers donation may be made to Orchard Park Presbyterian Church 1605 E 106th St. Indianapolis, IN 46280
