Charlene Gay Andrews was born on October 20, 1942 in Gary, IN to Charles Howard and Dorothy Alma Gay. She was the 5th of six children. She is preceded in death by siblings Patricia Colter, Gerald Gay, Harriet Riley, and Verdun Peterson. She is survived by her sister Claudia Woods of Georgia.
Charlene attended Lincoln Elementary and graduated from Tolleston High School in Gary, IN where she was in the glee club.
After 32yrs, Charlene retired from Lever Brothers and eventually moved to Indianapolis with her husband.
She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin and friend. Everyone loved her beautiful smile, witty spirit and great comebacks. Charlene loved spending time with family and friends. She enjoyed traveling, loved watching NBA games and her daytime soap operas. As a member of Eastern Star Church she also enjoyed serving in a number of ministries.
Charlene is survived by daughter, Evora (Edward) Jones; 3 grandsons: Derrick King, Damon Jones, and Brian (Mary) Jones; 6 great-grandchildren: Aaron King, Bre King, Derrick King Jr., Aniya (Kenneth) Jones-Cole, and Brian Jones Jr.; and great-great-granddaughter, Keniya Mary Love Cole.
Through marriage to her loving husband of 27yrs, Rome Andrews, Jr. (preceded in death), she also gained 3 stepdaughters Tonya (Lee) Dugan, Pamela (Gregory) White, and Safiya (Allan) Bell; 11 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.
Affectionately known as "Queenie" by her family and loved ones, she is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends who were all loved.
