Indianapolis

Chesley B. Godbey Jr. "CB", age 85, a lifelong resident of Indianapolis IN, passed away Wednesday September 9th, 2026. The son of Chesley B. and Lafern (Wesley) Godbey, who both preceded him in death. Also preceding him was Sandra "Sandy" (Hoffert) Godbey, his wife of 49 years.

He is survived by wife Narda Godbey, children Steven Godbey, Michelle Crittenden, Missy Lindsay, Amanda Lundy and brother Joel David Godbey. Additionally he is survived by 9 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and one nephew.

CB graduated from Warren Central and almost immediately began his career with the United States Postal Service retiring from its Architectural Services department after over 30 years of service. The Postal Service kept calling him back to do contract work so long that his late wife Sandy joked that she was going to forbid his answering the phone.

He was a longtime member of Calvary Tabernacle and active in the orchestra and participated in the church’s nursing home ministry for many years.

In retirement he worked to improve his golf game, took great care of his aging parents until their deaths and remained a ferocious competitor at any game he played. Losing was not an option in his mind, as any opponent will tell you.

A visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 15, 2026, from 11am to 1pm at Calvary Tabernacle, 902 Fletcher Ave., Indianapolis, IN 46203.  Funeral services will begin at 1pm, with a burial to follow at Washington Park East Cemetery.  Funeral arrangements entrusted to Flanner Buchanan - Washington Park East.
