Cathy Schackel

Cathy Irene Schackel 64, of Indianapolis, IN passed away surrounded by friends and family on January 23, 2013. She was born August 18, 1948 to Frank and Dorothy Walker of Arcola, IL. Cathy was a selflessly devoted, friend, sister, wife and mother. However, her favorite title was "Gran", and she loved playing, spending time and fussing over her grandchildren. She also enjoyed cooking, home improvements, decorating, organizing, gardening, parties and dancing. She recently celebrated 41 years of marriage to her husband, Michael, and she spent the last 18 years in administration roles for the Garrison Law Firm. Cathy leaves at home her loving husband Michael Schackel and two "puppies", Bailey and Maggie. Her legacy includes sons, Darryl Dague and Mike Schackel II; daughters, Dawn DiFilippo and Katina Downey; son-in-law Greg Downey; grandchildren, Jeff and Kristina Dague and Melissa Dague, Vincent DiFilippo, Neriah and Meirah Downey and Quinton Schackel; and great grandchildren, Madisyn and Bradyn Dague. Carol Portugal, Bonnie Yoder, and Becky Reed will be missing their big sister "Toots", who also was a favorite sister-in-law and aunt. Cathy was a surrogate mom and grandmother to many others (too many to list). This tiny woman made a big impact. Her presence will be missed by all whose lives she touched. A celebration of Cathy's life will be held Saturday, February 2nd from 11am - 2pm at Horizon Christian Fellowship, 7702 Indian Lake Road, with her celebration service beginning at 11 AM with Pastor Bill Goodrich officiating. Following the service, in honor of her love of family gatherings, we are having a family style pitch-in, so please bring your family's favorite dish.
