Catherine Sue Collier, 74, of Indianapolis, Indiana, passed away peacefully on April 29, 2026. She was born on December 13, 1951, in Indianapolis to the late Jack and Diane Yant.

Catherine was the heart and soul of her family—a true matriarch who never knew a stranger. She had a gift for connection, befriending everyone she met with her warm spirit and unique personality, complete with a vocabulary all her own. Whether she was making her regular trips to “Krogers” or stopping by the gas station for lottery tickets, Catherine turned everyday moments into opportunities to share a laugh or a story.

Affectionately known as “Mama Black Bear,” she was a mother not only to her own children, but to anyone who needed love, guidance, or a place to belong. Her home was the gathering place—the hub where family and friends came together, knowing they would always be welcomed. She played a central role in the lives of her children and grandchildren, offering unwavering support, humor, and care.

In her earlier years, Catherine enjoyed being part of a bowling team and loved playing bingo. She poured her love into cooking for others—her meals always made with heart, even if the seasoning didn’t always follow. More than anything, she will be remembered for the care she gave to others, especially as a devoted caregiver to many family members in their final days, offering comfort and compassion when it was needed most.

Catherine was a proud member of the Miami Indian Tribe. She shared 36 years of marriage with her devoted husband, Jeffrey Collier.

She is survived by her loving husband, Jeffrey Collier; her son, Jeffery Monday; her sister, Kimberly Yant; her cherished grandchildren, Skylee Seiler, Ambrose Monday, and Colt Seiler; and the father of her children, William Monday.

She was preceded in death by her beloved daughter, Dawn Michelle Monday Seiler, with whom she will be laid to rest side by side; her parents, Jack and Diane Yant; and her siblings, Connie Franklin, Jack Yant Jr., and Greg Yant.

Catherine’s legacy is one of love, resilience, and connection. She leaves behind a family bound together by the strength and warmth she gave so freely. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Rileys Children's hospital in honor of Catherine.
