Kate Carr, 92, lived a long, wonderful life. She passed away early on St Patrick’s Day 2022. Kate, née Catherine A. Ryan, was born on the near south side of Indianapolis in 1930. She became one of eight Ryan siblings. In 1964 Kate married Bill Carr and became a mom to four Carr boys (Thom, Jim, Bill and Pat) who had recently lost their birth mother, Kate’s life-long friend. Kate worked for 42 years for Eli Lilly (Office Services) and built many warm and enduring friendships.
In addition to the Carr boys and their spouses (Liz, Angela, Lisa and Denise), Kate is survived by one sister (Peggy). She loved and was loved by 7 grandchildren (Brandon, Erin, Jimmy, Timothy, Will, Kristen and Katie) and 5 great-grandchildren (Mackenzie, Elaina, Lilly, Mack and Maddox). She has dozens of loving nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews. Some of Kate’s Irish cousins, including Anne Ryan, traveled on occasion from Ireland to visit her in Indy, and Kate and Bill flew to Dublin several times to maintain the international relationships.
Kate and Bill were active and critical to the growth and operations of Chapter #259 of the Korean War Veterans Association (“KWVA”). The KWVA has supported medical care for and recovery of veterans at the VA Hospital in Indy.
Kate’s family wishes to thank the caring staff at Traditions at North Willow and its hospice professionals for making Kate’s final years so happy.
