Carolynne was born in Crown Point, Indiana, the daughter of Lolita (Nichols) and Karl Wendel. She received a BA degree from Butler University in 1952 and a MA degree in Library Science from Indiana University. She retired in 1982 as Head of the Genealogy Division after 36 years with the Indiana State Library. A “Sagamore of the Wabash” was presented to Carolynne by Governor Robert Orr in appreciation of her service to the state. She was married to Howard W. Miller, a former POW held in Germany during World War II. He preceded her in death, along with her parents; sister, Margaret Budney; brother, Robert “Bob” Wendel; and stepdaughter, Peggy Miller Gilham. She is survived by her sister-in-law, Carol Wendel of Lowell; stepchildren, Cindy Venberg and Tom Miller; seven grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Private graveside service and burial at Oak Hill Cemetery in Lebanon, Indiana. Memorial contributions may be made to the Humane Society of Indianapolis, www.indyhumane.org.
