Carolyn Sue Soder

August 12, 1932 — May 28, 2026

Indianapolis, IN

Carolyn Sue Soder, a woman whose life was woven with creativity, generosity, and an indomitable spirit, passed away on May 28, 2026. Born on August 12, 1932, Sue embraced the world with a heart full of warmth and a personality marked by thoughtfulness, wit, and an abiding stubbornness that only underscored her strength and resilience. Sometimes a pill, as those who loved her would gently acknowledge, she was always unmistakably herself.

Sue’s love for Christmas was legendary within her family. She delighted in gathering everyone together, turning each holiday into an occasion filled with joy, laughter, and the glow of togetherness. Her celebrations were not merely about tradition; they were about crafting memories wrapped beautifully, just as she did with the gifts she so lovingly prepared. Festive meals were a centerpiece of her gatherings, each dish made with care and shared with those she cherished.

Her journey was marked by deep connections and enduring bonds. Sue is survived by her devoted spouse, Gib, who stood by her side for 72 years. Her children carry forward her legacy—her daughter Lynn Marconnit and her husband John, and her son Neal Soder with his wife Marcia. Sue’s love blossomed through the generations with grandchildren Aaron Marconnit and his wife Devonne, Katelyn Lucas and her husband Paul, and David Soder and his wife Caitlyn. Great-grandchildren Lydia and Elliott Marconnit, Adelaide Lucas, and Owen Soder add new light to Carolyn’s family tree, each a testament to her life’s love and care.

Though her parents, Harold and Mildred Blank, and her sisters, Phyllis Shott and Jan DeWitt, have passed on before her, Sue’s memory lives vibrantly in the hearts of all she touched. Her creative mind, her smart and sometimes feisty commentary, and her generous spirit are treasures that those close to her hold dear.

Friends and family will gather to celebrate Sue’s life at Flanner Buchanan Funeral Centers - Speedway in Indianapolis on June 4, 2026. Visitation with family will begin at 10:30 a.m., followed by the funeral service at 11:30 a.m. After the service, a graveside service will be held at Washington Park North Cemetery, a peaceful place where Carolyn will rest eternally.

Carolyn Sue Soder’s legacy is one of love, laughter, and the art of making every moment meaningful. In remembering her, family and friends find comfort in the many gatherings she so lovingly fostered, the gifts she so carefully wrapped, and the warmth and joy she brought into their lives. Though she is no longer with us, Sue’s spirit continues to shine brightly in the hearts of all who knew her.
