Carole Sue Hallal, 86, a lifelong resident of Indianapolis, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 3, 2026, leaving behind a lifetime of cherished memories and the many people whose lives she touched.

Born Carole Sue Mercer on April 19, 1940, she was the daughter of Margaret Carolyn Schober and Mark Francis Mercer. She graduated from Purdue University in 1963 and went on to dedicate many years of her life to teaching with Indianapolis Public Schools, where she helped shape the lives of countless students.

On March 28, 1969, Carole married Nadim Hallal, beginning a loving partnership that spanned 53 years. Together, they built a life filled with family, shared adventures, and lasting memories. During their retirement years, they traveled extensively throughout the American West and Southwest, enjoying the beauty and history of every place they visited.

Carole had many interests and passions throughout her life. An avid doll collector, she traveled to conventions across the country, connecting with others who shared her enthusiasm. Most of all, she enjoyed bringing family together. Her and her husband’s holiday dinners were special occasions, filled with good food, laughter, and the warmth of family.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Nadim Hallal; her parents, Margaret Carolyn and Mark Francis Mercer; her sister, Joann Phyllis; her sisters-in-law Evalin Hallal and Jowdat Hallal, her brothers-in-law Roy Hallal, Faris Hallal, and Neal Ray Suppiger; and her nephew, Kurt Mercer Suppiger. Though she experienced the loss of many loved ones throughout her life, the memories they shared remained an important part of her story. She is survived by brothers-in-law Dr. Eli Hallal and George Hallal, sister-in-law Zee Norman, and many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.

Carole will be remembered for her dedication as an educator, her many interests, her love of travel, and the care she showed her family.
