Carol Lynn (Meadows) Spilker, 80, of Greenfield, passed away on Sunday, February 8, 2026. She was born on October 13, 1945, in Indianapolis, Indiana.
Carol graduated from Warren Central High School in 1963. She then received a bachelor’s degree in mathematics from Ball State University and then a master’s degree in mathematics from Purdue University. She began her teaching career at Belzer Junior High School in 1969 and moved to Lawrence North High School when it opened in 1976 to teach high school mathematics, her favorite subjects being geometry and trigonometry. She was well known for being able to write backwards on the chalkboard while she talked to her class. She retired from Lawrence North in 2005. She never stopped loving math and helping students. For many years following her official retirement, she tutored kids in math and edited math textbooks.
She was married to John for 59 years and was the light of his life. She loved Jesus Christ and her life was marked by her immense faith and joy. She adored her two daughters Kim and Kate and poured her life into her grandchildren, attending all their sporting events and driving them wherever they needed to go. She was a faithful member of Brookville Road Community Church and served many years as a member and president of the Irvington chapter of Tri Kappa, a service sorority. Throughout her life, she enjoyed playing bridge with her teacher colleagues as well as snow skiing, horseback riding, reading books, laying on a great beach under the sun, and working crossword and sudoku puzzles. She is marked by her amazing smile and kindness that she kept to the very end. All those who knew her loved her and she will be deeply missed.
Carol is survived by her husband John, and her daughters, Kimberly Spilker (Mark Bewsey) and Kathryn (Luke) Fitzwater; grandchildren, Olivia Bewsey, and Lily and Owen Fitzwater; sister, Linda (Rich) Schubert. She was preceded in death by her parents, Paul and Lucille Meadows.
