Carol Lynn Schmidt

August 2, 1933 — September 17, 2025

Zionsville, IN

Carol Lynn Coleman Lee Schmidt made her last earthly journey on September 17, 2025. For someone who loved to travel, it was only fitting for Carol to be surrounded by family to send her on her way.

Carol was born to Elmer and Bertha Coleman of Indianapolis and graduated from George Washington High School in 1951 and, shortly thereafter, married Richard Lee and together they had four children.

Carol met Edward Schmidt and they were married for 25 years. During this time, Carol worked as an Interior Design Consultant. Carol and Ed went on many adventures and traveled the world. They lived in Florida and Tennessee until Ed's death leading to Carol's return to Indiana to be closer to family.

Carol shared her gift of hospitality. She loved cooking and would serve the meal on a beautifully set table. You could always count on there being a homemade cake for dessert followed by a rousing game of dominoes.

Holidays were special and Carol had a knack for having beautifully wrapped packages under the tree. They were almost too pretty to open!

Carol loved gardening and participated in the Gardens of Zionsville Tour, priding herself in her beautiful draping wisteria and her whimsical garden displays.

Carol loved to crochet, read, quilt, sew, paint and doing a daily crossword puzzle. The advice she would offer all women is, "Just put on a little lipstick, you'll be fine," and never forget, "Grandmas are just antique little girls."

Carol was a devout Christian and shared her faith and the good news of Jesus.

Carol was preceded in death by her parents, siblings Dr Joseph Coleman, Delores Lewis and Barbara Hughey, husband Ed Schmidt, daughter Vicki Jo Lee and great granddaughter Katherine Elizabeth Lee.

Carol is survived by daughter Pamela Upchurch, sons Scott (Colleen) Lee and Kenneth Lee; Granddaughters Amity Boyd, Carrie Upchurch, and Samantha (Dustin) Lakins. Grandsons Brandon (Brittney) Lee and Bryce (Jennifer) Lee.

Stepchildren Deborah (James) Janeczko, Michael Schmidt, Mark (Beth) Schmidt and Jay Schmidt; Grandchildren Jennifer Weber, Joseph Weber, Aaron Schmidt. Jessica, Adam, Megan Schmidt and many great grandchildren.

Carol's family expresses their sincere gratitude to the staff of the Memory Care Unit of Traditions at Reagan Park for all the love and care they give on a daily basis.
