Carol Nadine Janis

Carol N. Janis, born June 18, 1929 in Norfolk, Nebraska, the youngest of 4 children.

She quietly passed away in her sleep, August 7, 2025, in Thornton, Colorado. She knew she would be seeing her Lord, husband(Don) and son (Timmy) soon.

She and her family lived in Norfolk, NE until her high school years. Then they moved to Omaha, NE. There she attended South High School, so she could swim in their “indoor” pool and involved in band/orchestra. Playing the French horn, piano and later the accordion and organ. She then went and graduated to Prairie Bible Institute, in Saskatchwan, Canada graduating as an English major. (there she saw the “northern lights” many times during the winter)

She then went to teach for a few semesters as a substitute teacher.

Then she met her husband, Donald at church in Omaha, Nebraska. After a brief courtship, they were married January 4, 1952 and were married in Omaha, Nebraska for 71 ½ years. Donald preceded Carol by almost 2 years.

They had 4 children- Timothy, Miriam, Priscilla and Rebecca. They went to Perkasie, PA as their first ministry. Then they attended language school in Quebec, Canada for 1 year, to learn French for the missionary field in Guadeloupe, French West Indies.

In 1957, they went , to Guadeloupe, French West Indies for 8 years where they ministered with her husband. Playing the accordion and taught Sunday School, all with trying to keep from being sick with malaria.

They returned to the United States and together opening new churches in Elkhorn, Nebraska, Zionsville and Noblesville, IN. And finally finished their ministry for the last 20 years to a good age of 91 years at the United Methodist Church, in downtown, Indianapolis.

While she continued as an administrative executive secretary for various companies in the Elkhorn, NE and Indianapolis, IN areas. She also gave the piano lessons. She was great in correcting our essays in high school.

Her joy, was listening to music, playing the piano or organ and singing.

Carol is survived by her 3-daughters – Miriam Ellsworth and her husband (Mike), Priscilla Tucker, Becky Clark and her husband (Kevin), her 5 GRAND children, Matthew Ellsworth & his wife, Kristy, Aaron Ellsworth & his wife, Kathy, Nathan Clark & his wife, Ashley, Rachael Clark,  David Clark & his wife Teresa, 8-GREAT GRAND children, Charlize, Hunter, Eloise, Adelyn and Henry Ellsworth, Peyton, Kinsley and Hudson Clark AND her sister, Donetta. She was preceded by death by her husband Donald, her only son, Timothy Paul, her parents, Olaf and Winnie Johnson, her sister Maxine Klein and brother Wayne Johnson.

The memorial service will be at Flanner Buchanan-Oaklawn Memorial Gardens (Good Shepherd Chapel), 9700 Allisonville Road, Indianapolis, IN on August 17, 2025 at 12pm, with visitation beginning at 11am. Flowers are welcome and can be delivered to Flanner Buchanan by noon on August 16, 2025.
