Carol Louise Edwards

January 28, 1944 — February 25, 2024

Carol Louise Edwards, age 80, passed away in Indianapolis, Indiana, on February 25, 2024.  She was born on January 28, 1944, in Bristol, Virginia, to Rev. Barnard and Rubye (Fleenor) Edwards.  In her own words, Carol wrote these autobiographical notes in the 1980’s: “A native of Southwest Virginia. Born in Bristol, grew up in Bristol, (May’s Lick, Ky), Pulaski and Roanoke.   B.A. from Lynchburg College, 1967, I have lived in the west and the northwest, have been writing since I was 8 years old.  My main obsessions include Spanish literature, pop culture of the 50’s and 60’s, playing the pennywhistle and dulcimer (not too well), old movies, and amateur nature study.  I am currently enrolled in the Master's Program in English and Creative Writing at Hollins College (Roanoke, Va).  When I grow up, I want to be a novelist.”

Carol worked in the public library in Salem, Virginia, and Indianapolis.  In addition to writing prolific poetry (published in several literary publications), Carol was active in the Civil Rights Movement, taught in the HeadStart Program, and she lived and worked in Boston, Salt Lake City, Richmond, Norfolk , Salem (Va), and Indianapolis. She was a member of Westview Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) and for several years, she did a Card Ministry for her congregation.  She loved her family and friends dearly and enjoyed visits and telephone conversations with them very much.

Surviving family members include Rev. Sylvia Mill (Rev. Stuart), sister; Stuart Mill (Kristin Lennox), nephew; David Mill (Kate York), nephew; Bonnie Mill (David Orr), niece; Jericha Mill (Paul Harris) and Ryleigh Mill, great nieces; Rev. Kaye Edwards, sister-in-law; Shelley Edwards Ketter (Tim) niece; Kent Edwards, nephew; Arabella Ketter and Holden Ketter, great niece/great nephew. She was preceded in death by her parents, her infant son, Eugene, and her brother, Rev. David L Edwards.
