Carlito Dizon
Sabandal
March 2, 1951 – March 15, 2026
Carlito Dizon Sabandal passed away on March 15, 2026 at the age of 75 in Indianapolis.
Carlito was born in the city Governor Generoso, in the Davao Oriental province of the Philippines to Aurora and Constantino Sabandal. He grew up in Davao City and completed his undergrad and medical schooling at the University of Santo Tomas in Manila.
Carlito came to the United States in 1982 and met his future wife Asuncion in Los Angeles while studying for their medical exams. They were married in 1984 in Brooklyn, New York. They would spend the next few years across Florida, Illinois, and New York before setting roots in Indiana in 1985 where they would both practice as physicians. He completed his residencies at St. Vincent Hospital. For the next 30+ years, he would serve as an Emergency Medicine doctor across hospitals in southern Indiana, while living in Carmel. His long hours commuting allowed him to enjoy his passions for cars, listening to the Eagles, and accumulating speeding tickets.
He lived his life with joy, playfulness, and commitments to life long learning, exercise, and ice cream. Despite numerous heart conditions and serious surgeries, he was determined to stay active and loved to ride his stationary bike while reading his medical journals or walking in Daubenspeck Park and listening to the birds. He brought his own unique style and a smile to all of his interests. He loved cars, fishing, buffets, and going to the movies. Until the end, his favorite car was always his next one.
Carlito was was preceded in death by his brother Raulito, and his in-laws Juanito and Filipinas.
He was survived by his wife of 42 years, Asuncion “Sonie” Dorotheo (aka “Sweets”) , who passed away on April 12, 2026. He is survived by his daughter Sheryl (aka “Pumpkin”), husband Sean, and grandson Ciaran (aka “Bambino”), and his son Eric (aka “Kits”) and wife Ellen; brothers Leonardo (Rosita), Rudolfo (Lolita), Bienvenido, and Sonny (Maryanne); sisters Joy, Adelicia, Luede (Clem), Herma (Mike), Arlene (Enrico).
