Carl Lawrence Schloot

December 29, 1947 — November 20, 2025

Carl went home to be with the Lord on November 20, 2025, surrounded by his family. Carl was known for his love and devotion to family and friends, his love of the Indianapolis Colts & the Indianapolis 500, and his love of Dad jokes.

He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

He was born in Indianapolis, Indiana at Methodist Hospital to Elmer G. and Ethel Jean (Johnson) Schloot, of Muncie, Indiana. He grew up in Muncie, attending Selma High School and moved with his parents to Dallas, TX his senior year, where he graduated from WT White High School. He met the love of his life, Kathie Marie (Warren), while at Butler University, where he was a member of Alpha Phi Omega.

Carl was a loving father to Kirsten and Lance. He supported his kids as they pursued their interests - often as a coach in the First Baptist Church sports league – Kirsten in softball, soccer and baton twirling, and Lance in baseball, basketball, soccer, and taekwondo.

Carl loved the Indy 500 – spending as much time possible there during the month of May since 1969.

Carl loved the Indianapolis Colts. He and Kathie have cheered them on since the team arrived in Indianapolis, as 41-year season ticket holders. The highlight was seeing them win the Super Bowl, drenched to the bone, in Miami.

Carl worked for Yellow Freight System as a Linehaul Supervisor for 54 years, leaving only when they closed their doors for good. He loved his work family and though he missed seeing them every day, he very much enjoyed retirement.

Carl is preceded in death by his parents and his brothers, John D. Schloot and Allan Frederick Schloot (Fred).

Carl is survived by his wife of 56 years, Kathie Marie (Warren) Schloot, his children, Kirsten (Schloot) Harwood, Carl Lawrence Schloot, II (Lance), his daughter-in-law Dawn, son-in-love, Tom Hall, his three grandchildren,Lauren & Alex Harwood and Natalie Schloot, his sister, Gretchen Gane, sister-in-law, Jane A. Schloot and 3 Nieces and 2 Nephews.

A celebration of life will be held on a date in 2026 to be determined for family and friends. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to The Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation.
