Capt. Richard M. Lewis, Sr.

Capt. Richard M. Lewis, Sr., US Army, Ret., 89, of Indianapolis, passed away Wednesday, December 30,2015 at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born November 30, 1926 in Indianapolisthe son of Harold C., Sr. and Gladys B. (Cozatt) Lewis. Richard graduated from Howe High School andserved our country for 30 years, having been drafted for WW II and was one ofthe last horse mounted cavalry. He wasan infantry Recon and Intel Sgt., and later battlefield commissioned officerduring the Korean and Vietnam wars. After retirement from the Army he served as an instructor and supervisorwith Lincoln Technical Institute for 17 years. He was a member of Harvestime Assembly of God and Brookside MasonicLodge #720 F & A.M.

Richard is survived by hiswife of more than 65 years, Dorothy (Nance) Lewis; sons, Carl E. “High Pockets”Lewis (Cheryl) of Sand Springs, OK, Richard M Lewis, Jr. (Becky) of Clay City,IN, Gail C. Grimes (Richard) of Greenfield, IN, David W. Lewis (Linda) ofCarrollton, GA and Thomas M. Lewis (Kim) of Indianapolis, IN; 16 grandchildrenand 17 great grandchildren also survive.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a great granddaughter, Breanna Nicole Brown and his brothers, Harold “Bud” Lewis, Jr. and Donald E. Lewis.

The family is being servedby Flanner and Buchanan-Washington ParkEast, 10722 E. Washington St., Indianapolis, IN 46229, where a Celebration of Richard’s life will be held at 2:00 PMon Wednesday, January 6, 2015. Visitationwill be held on Tuesday from 3:00 – 7:00 PM at the funeral home, where amasonic service will be held at 7:00 PM. Burial will be in Washington Park East Cemetery with military honors providedby the US Army.
