Bruce D. Bonney

Bruce D. Bonney, 54, of Carmel passed away July 22, 2021.  He was born October 30, 1966, in Darby, PA, the son of Laurence D. and Marian L. (Mowry) Bonney. He married Debora Head on June 14, 1986.

Shortly after Bruce and Debora married, Bruce joined the United States Air Force. While in the Air Force he was awarded many medals, ribbons and awards; Air Force Achievement Medal, Air Force Outstanding Unit Award, Air Force Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, NCO Professional Military Education Graduate Ribbon, Air Force Training Ribbon, Air Force Longevity Service Award Ribbon. Bruce served in the First Airborne Command and Control Squadron (1ACCS) where he had opportunities to ride on and with Air Force One. He was honorably discharged in 1995.

After serving active duty in the Air Force, Bruce went to RICE Aviation in Virginia and gained his Federal License as an Air Frame and Power Plant Mechanic.

Upon graduation, Bruce and his family moved to Carmel, Indiana closer to Debora’s family.

After moving to Indiana, Bruce started working for an airline, now called Republic Airways, where he worked for the last 22 years.

Bruce had many admirable qualities, one of which was his deep and immense love for his wife, family, and country. He enjoyed traveling with his family, especially days on the beach and riding the surf with his children and grandchildren.  One of his favorite trips was a cruise to Alaska with his Debora for their 25^th wedding anniversary.

He thoroughly enjoyed a wide variety of music and was always making playlists and mixes. He often claimed not to like people but made friends easily and people flocked to him anyways. This quiet and reserved man would light up a room when he spoke.

Bruce had a low tolerance for others’ willful ignorance. He was the kind of man who told you how it was, whether you liked it or not and expected the same.

Bruce is loved and will be greatly missed by everyone whose life he touched, especially his family and friends.

He is survived by his loving wife of 35 years, Debora Bonney; their two children, Brad Bonney and Amanda (Jake) Eliot; four grandchildren, Jamie, William, Emily, and Kaylee; his mother, Marian Bonney; his sister, Michelle (Adam) Lloyd; his extended Head family; and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.  He was preceded in passing by his son, Michael T. Bonney, and his father, Laurence D. Bonney.

Memorial services will be 5:00pm, August 7th, 2021 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 11257 Temple Drive, Carmel.  Visitation will be from 4:00pm until the time of service at the church.  Memorial contributions may be directed to the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention at afsp.org.  Online condolences may be shared by visiting flannerbuchanan.com.  Arrangements were entrusted to Flanner Buchanan – Carmel.
