Brian was born in Indianapolis, IN.  He spent a few formative years in Glasgow, Kentucky where he spent his first-grade year at EB Terry Elementary.  Brian graduated from Lebanon High School, Lebanon, Indiana in 2002.  He played tennis throughout high school and enjoyed his art classes; but his true love was science.  He went on to study at Indiana University in Bloomington achieving his PhD in Biochemistry there in May of 2012.   His work revolved around improving treatment for type 2 diabetes and resulted in several patents.    Brian was a free spirit, loved traveling to music festivals.  He had an inquisitive mind and spent much time researching.  He cared about his appearance and valued opportunities to work out and keep himself in the best physical condition possible. Brian is survived by his parents, Mike and Nancy Ward, older brother Matthew (Tamera) niece Ragan and nephew AJ, sister Julie (Alex), grandmother Lois Maickel of Lafayette, Aunt Carolyn Anderson, cousins Erik and Clark Anderson of Gurnee, Illinois, cousin Molly (Adam) Pagryzinski of Milwaukee, WI and numerous other family members.  He is preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, also a PhD chemist Roger P Maickel, paternal grandparents William Chester (Chet) and Thelma Ward, Godparents Raymond Joseph and Joann Berens.
