Brian Scott Hoaglan

July 12, 1974 — June 27, 2024

Westfield, Indiana

Brian Scott Hoaglan, 49, passed away on Thursday, June 27, 2024 after a 4 year battle with colorectal cancer. He was surrounded by his family.

Brian was born on July 12, 1974 to Ronald (Ron) Hoaglan and Karen Smith (Brink) in Rapid City, SD. He was a graduate of Warren Central High School in 1992 and Rose Hulman Institute of Technology in 1996.

At Rose Hulman, he met his everything (wife) Margo Hoaglan (Jones) where they were both cheerleaders. Brian was a member of Triangle Fraternity. They were married for 24 years and were graced with their 3 gifts: Travis, Macy and Aaron Hoaglan.

Brian worked as a mechanical engineer for Great Dane Trailers, Bridgestone/Firestone, and most recently and longest at Helmer Scientific. Through these employments he found many great and life-long friends and mentors.

Brian was a wonderful and dedicated father and family man. He took great pride in supporting his children in their endeavors. You would find him on the sidelines cheering and coaching Travis through his football years. He would be on deck working as a timer or in the stands quietly but passionately rooting for Macy in the pool. As Aaron fell in love with band, Brian proudly began cheering more for the half-time shows than the sport on the field.

Brian was grateful for an advanced notice of his mortality. This allowed for great peace of mind to be sure his family would be taken care of in his absence. He was an introvert who loved others well. He was proud of his renewed and converted faith to walk with him throughout his last journey. He thanked God daily for a sickness that did not rob him of his mind or memories.

Brian is preceded in death by his grandparents: Harry and Mildred Hoaglan, Martin and Naomi Brink, father (Pops) Ronald Hoaglan, father Jerry Smith, father and mother-in-law Hughie and Rita Jones, and man’s best friend Renegade.

He is survived by his wife Margo, children Travis, Macy and Aaron, mother Karen Smith, mother Linda Hoaglan, sister Christie (Morris) Hawkins, bros Kevin (Molly) Rand, and Mark (Tiffany) Rand, brother Charles Hoaglan, sister Michelle Landrum (John Kiel), sister-in-law Connie (Johnny) McLean. Friends turned brothers: Andy Switzer, Scott Wessel, and Eric Shannon. Nieces and nephews: Adrianna, Morgan and Mason Hawkins, Alexa and Quincy Rand, Gabriella Rand, Kate (Kyle) McDaniel, Mike (Michelle) Landrum, Jenna and Julianne McLean. Man’s other best friend Ollie, tortoise Squirt, and granddogger Gia.

The family would like to thank Community North Cancer Center’s doctors and nurses for their exceptional support and care throughout his journey.

Brian was an exceptional and caring individual who completed his tasks compassionately and with his whole heart. Brian consistently cared for others before himself. He was always looking for ways to support others in their time of need with food or by financial means. In lieu of flowers, the family would like to start a “See a need; Fill a need” fund. Every year for his birthday his wife and children will locate a need in a community (band uniforms, swimsuits, sporting equipment, food pantries, etc). Monetary donations for the fund may be sent to the family via: cash, check or Venmo to Margo_Hoaglan_3.

Services will be on Wednesday, July 3, 2024 at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church. 14596 Oak Ridge Road Carmel, IN 46032. Visitation will be from 9-11am. A funeral Mass will begin at 11:00am.
