Indianapolis

Brenda Kaye Smith (née Hobbs), 69, of Indianapolis, IN went home to be with the Lord on October 26, 2025. Brenda was born to James and Velma Hobbs on July 6, 1956 in McMinnville, TN. After high school Brenda moved to Indianapolis, where she met the love of her life, David Smith. Brenda and David were married in October 1980 and spent the next 45 years together, raising and loving their four beautiful children.

Brenda was highly devoted to her family. Her children fondly remember the times she took to be with them and make their lives as fun and memorable as possible. From frequent trips to Putt-Putt and Toys R Us, reading bedtime stories, and calling all over town to find that one movie to rent in their younger days, to playing Skip-bo and having impromptu dance parties in her later years, Brenda did everything to make her kids happy. She was born to be a mom and grandmother, and it showed in everything she did. Brenda’s grandchildren love how she was always there for them. They will always remember her kindness, thoughtfulness, and positive presence. Her caring nature showed every Christmas as she would meticulously count every piece of candy to make sure all the kids’ and grandkids’ stockings were exactly equal. Brenda truly loved all of her kids and grandkids equally, and she had an uncanny ability of making them feel like they were the most precious things in the world. Brenda’s husband recalls how adamant she was about being buried in Indianapolis, where she could always be near him, their children, and grandchildren. David and Brenda spent every moment of their lives together, enjoying quiet moments at home and peaceful trips to Tennessee and Niagara Falls. They may not have traveled the world, but to them, their whole world was right in front of them.

Brenda leaves behind her husband David Smith, children David (Katie) Smith Jr., Steven (Michanda) Smith, Jennifer (Larry) Silver, Jessica (Adam) Wicker, grandchildren Larry Silver, Brayden Silver, Isabella Smith, and sisters Deborah Hobbs and Martha Huffaker. She was preceded in death by her parents James Hobbs and Velma Hobbs (née Nunley.)
