Brenda Sue Hammersley

Brenda Sue (Abell) Hammersley, 83, of Indianapolis, Indiana, passed away on September 27, 2026. She was born on October 16, 1942, in Henderson, Kentucky, to parents, the late Charles “Cissel” and Geraldine (Pressley) Abell. Brenda married the love of her life, J. Scott Hammerseley, on August 19, 1960, enjoying a wonderful 66 years of marriage until her passing.

Brenda is survived by her loving husband, J. Scott Hammersley; children, Kandace (Dave) Laugle, J. Scott Hammersley II; grandchildren, Taylor Martz, Hayden Barnack, Garrett Hammersley, Gabrielle Hammersley, Joelle Laugle, Phillip Laugle, Casey Laugle; great-grandchildren, Olivia Gunter, Rowan Gunter, Sage Hammersley; sister, Hilda Brown, and many extended family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Gale Hammersley, Barbara Riker, and half-brother, William Cissel Abell.

Visitation for Brenda will be from 9:30 am – 10:30 am on Friday, October 2, 2026, at Flanner Buchanan – Oaklawn Memorial Gardens (Good Shepherd Chapel) – 9700 Allisonville Rd., Indianapolis, IN 46250, with a funeral service immediately following at 10:30 am. Burial will take place at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
