Indianapolis

Billy Ray Holland, age 79, of Indianapolis, passed away peacefully on July 25, 2025. Born on May 25, 1946, in Hazard, Kentucky.

A proud family man, Billy's greatest joy came from spending time with those he loved. He was affectionately known as ‘Pap’ to his grandchildren, a title he wore with deep pride and endless affection. No matter what it was, Billy was a steady and loving presence in their lives.

Billy dedicated over 40 years of hard work and loyalty to the City-County Building in Indianapolis, where he served as a respected mechanic supervisor. His strong work ethic and easygoing nature earned him the admiration of colleagues and friends alike.

In his free time, Billy could be found manning the grill for family cookouts, cheering on his favorite teams—the Indianapolis Colts and Pacers—or watching birds flutter around his backyard feeder, often sharing his amusement at the squirrels who tried to steal the show. He also found joy on the golf course and watching his favorites play the game.

He shared a deep and enduring love with his late wife, Linda, to whom he was a devoted husband and caregiver until her passing in 2006. Their bond remained a guiding light in his life. Billy also deeply loved his loyal feline companion, Leroy, who passed in 2024 and brought him comfort and companionship in recent years.

Billy’s legacy is one of quiet strength, unconditional love, and unwavering dedication to family. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him, especially his children and grandchildren, whose lives were richly blessed by his steady presence, storytelling, and warm laugh.

He is reunited in heaven with his loving wife, Linda Holland, who passed in 2006. As well as his parents, Edward and Fannie (Osborne) Holland; his siblings, Isaac ‘Ike’ Holland, Mary Davis, Ernest Lee Holland, Sammy Holland, and a baby sister, Margaret Jean Holland; his sister-in-law, Darlene Holland; a dear friend, Sue Shirrell; and his beloved cat companion, Leroy.

Left behind to cherish his memory are his loving children, Angela M. Baker and Melissa G. Holland; his grandchildren, Billy A. Baker and Linda M. Holland; his siblings, Violet Bryant, Katherine Bryant, Faye Bryant, Fannie Baker, Barbara Bowling, Ken Holland, Edward ‘Red’ Holland, Virgil Holland, Emmaline Gregory; his beloved sister-in-law, Irma Brewer; and several nieces and nephews.
