Billy G. Smith

Billy Gene Smith, 78 of Indianapolis, passed away on February 4, 2011. He was born on July 21, 1932 in Terre Haute, IN to Robert C. and Mabel M. (Armstrong) Smith. Billy was a 1951 graduate of Gerstmeyer High School and served his country in the Army during the Korean Conflict, earning the Bronze Star for bravery. He also worked as a photo engraver for the Indianapolis Star, retiring in 1997. Billy is survived by his wife of 57 years, Shirley A. (Congleton) Smith; son, Michael J. Smith; daughter-in-law, Penny Smith; grandson, Eric Alan Smith. He is also survived by his brother, Jackie L. Smith; sister-in-law, Charlotte Smith; sisters, Mary Jane Coombes and Marjorie Butland. Billy was preceded in death by his parents, and son Alan J. Smith who passed away in 1984. Memorial Contributions may be given to the American Cancer Society.
