Dunn on October 30, 2021 starting at 09:00 am EST please click in this LINK https://view.oneroomstreaming.com/authorise.php?k=1635208236144504 Billie Dawn Montgomery Dunn, 89, long-time resident of Speedway, passed peacefully on Thursday, October 21, 2021 at home, joining her beloved husband of 63 years, John H Dunn. Billie was often surrounded by loved ones in the days and weeks preceding her death. Mrs. Dunn was born to Jaime “Elois” (Atkinson) and William Montgomery on April 16, 1932, in Richmond, VA. Billie was one of six children. She is predeceased by sisters, Virginia “Elouise” Marsh, Barbara Mark, and Betty Bock; and brother Flavis Montgomery. She is survived by one brother, Robert “Marvin” Montgomery, of Florida. Billie spent most of her pre-married life growing up in Ft. Myers, Florida. After older sister, Elouise, moved to Indiana, Billie decided to join her in Indianapolis. Working as a secretary at Allison Transmission in Speedway, she caught the attention of her future husband, John, during a lunch break. They married in Indianapolis, Indiana on February 9, 1952. The Dunns lived in Speedway their entire adult life! Never having returned to Florida, Billie brought a little of her Southern upbringing to Speedway. She made delicious “sweet tea” and shared her beautiful “Florida room”, with many. Billie enjoyed endless hours in her sunroom reading, relaxing, entertaining and listening to Christian music while enjoying a cup of hot tea with one sweetener and just the right amount of milk, or a glass of her famous “sweet tea”. Billie is survived by her four sons, Michael (Conni), John (Kathy), Tom (Dana), Joe; her four daughters, Barbara (Dr. Bruce C. Fields, predeceased Billie in 2013) Fields, Ann (Jim) Talhelm, Mary (Dr. Luke) Wagner, Carolyn (Dr. Kurt) Fromme, as well as 28 Grandchildren (13 spouses) and 24 Great-Grandchildren, and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. Her family will greatly miss her wise and thoughtful counsel (only if asked) on most any topic. As she so often humbly said, “I don’t want to impose”! As a loving mother, wife and friend to all who knew her, Billie raised 8 children and attended to their needs and activities. She found time to be involved in her Church, St. Gabriel Catholic Church, and in particular, a Women’s Prison Ministry outreach. Later, Billie opened her own floral and gift shop, Queen Anne’s Lace, in Speedway in 1983. She co-owned that shop with some friends for 10 years and loved meeting and serving her customers. Arranging flowers and decorating were some of her passions. She was a successful businesswoman and an award-winning member of the Soroptimist International Club of Indianapolis. Billie was also an excellent seamstress and sewed clothing and other items for her home and family. Billie loved politics and was a proud Christian conservative. Always well-informed, she listened to talk radio, watched the evening news and read the daily newspaper. In her spare time, she enjoyed attending water aerobics, library visits, going antiquing and shopping for “pretty things” at a bargain price. There will be a public visitation on Saturday, October 30 from 9:00am – 11:00am at St. Gabriel Catholic Church, 6000 W. 34th St., Indianapolis, IN 46224, where Mrs. Dunn was a charter member. A Mass of Christian Burial will immediately follow the public visitation. Both the public visitation and the funeral Mass will be livestreamed on the Flanner Buchanan website and available for several days after the funeral. In lieu of flowers, please consider contributions to St. Gabriel Church.
