Betty Willoughby

March 10, 1929 — August 31, 2014

Betty Elrod Willoughby A little over a year following the death of her beloved husband Robert, Betty Elrod Willoughby died in Greenwood on August 31, 2014. A devoted member of the Church of Christ for over 80 years, Betty enjoyed a large church family and felt especially blessed that their move back to Indiana in 1990 gave her the opportunity to have family and cherished friends close by. She is survived by numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and in-laws in the area and by her precious friends Judy and Harold Stoner of nearby North Vernon, Indiana. She is also survived by her son David Willoughby of Albuquerque, New Mexico, and his son Evan; her daughter Linda Willoughby Wilms of Atlanta, Georgia, Linda's husband Markus Wilms and their son Christopher. Betty was known for her ability to recall and record the details of her family's heritage. She had a passion for documenting her family's lineage and sharing the oral history about the role many of her relatives played in our country's history. Prior to living in Greenwood and devoting her time to genealogy, homemaking and her strong faith, she had been an employee of Eli Lilly and the IRS. Friends and family will celebrate her life on Wednesday, September 3rd during a funeral service at Shelbyville Road Church of Christ at 4915 Shelbyville Road in Indianapolis. The chapel will be open for visitation at 11:00AM, followed by a 1:00PM service. She will be laid to rest with Robert and her parents at Washington Park North Cemetery. Betty's life was touched by both Diabetes and Breast Cancer. The family suggests those wishing to honor her memory contribute to a related charitable organization or make a memorial gift to the Shelbyville Road Church. Arrangements have been entrusted to Flanner and Buchanan-Washington Park North, and online condolences or memories may be shared at www. flannerbuchanan.com.
