Betty M. Decker

November 23, 1925 — April 13, 2014

Betty Marie Decker, 88, passed away peacefully on Palm Sunday, April 13, 2014. Betty was born November 23, 1925 in Indianapolis, IN to Earl and Thelma Fulton. She was a 1943 graduate of Shortridge High School. Betty met Bill Decker, Sr. in 1943 while Bill was home on leave from the US Navy during WWII. Bill and Betty married on May 22, 1945. Once Bill returned home after the war, they made their home in Lawrence, IN where they lived together for 58 years. Betty worked at Western Electric on Shadeland Ave prior to her retirement. Betty loved to read, the Sound of Music was her favorite movie and she loved the color blue. Having her nails painted and wearing pink lipstick were Betty's personal trademarks. Betty coined the phrase "isn't that wonderful" - she always was happy, loving and accepting of everyone and everything. She had a deep faith and believed that everything was in "God's hands" and lived her life that way. Her greatest pride and joy was her beloved and devoted son Mark Decker. In her later years, Betty moved to Greenwood Village South, where she lived and was cared for by a wonderful and kind staff. Betty is survived by her loving son Mark Decker, who was there with Betty during her final hours, never leaving her side. She also is survived by her daughter-in-law Dale Gunyon-Decker, who Betty adored along with Dale's mother, sisters, brothers, nieces and nephews, who were like Betty's extended family, who all love Betty and will miss her. Betty is also survived by another daughter-in-law Anna Decker; a grandson Bill Decker, III; great-grandchildren Madison Decker, Brett, Jonathan, Mason, Parker and Ashley Ponsler, and their mother Tracey. Betty was preceded in death just recently by her son, William Decker Jr. who passed away on February 15, 2014, and her husband Bill in April 2004. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Gleaners Food Bank.
