Betty Louise Hammons-Wood

Betty Louise Hammons Wood Heaven lit up with a mighty presence when Jesus brought Betty Hammons Wood home on January 1, 2015. Betty was born in Columbus, Indiana on June 6, 1932 to Virgil and Mary Louise (Walters) VanArsdale. We want to remember the life and vitality that was hers. Betty had a real passion for serving the Lord with a ministry of music with her husband Willie Wood. Betty, along with Willie, sang at various Missions, Nursing Homes, Prisons and Life Tabernacle Church, giving joy with her voice and enthusiasm and kindness to others. She served Jesus daily as she embraced her family and friends. Betty is survived by her husband Willie Wood, daughters Shirley Louise (Michael) Burke, Cynthia Kay (Thomas) Ryan and Kathy Lynn Jester. Grandchildren Michael Burke, Carrie Burke, Casey Weston, Megan Holzman, Kaitlin Hepditch, Patrick Ryan. Great grandchildren Brianne and Bailey Burke, Jaide and Drake Curtis, Abbie and Alix Weston, Jackson Hepditch and Maxwell Holzman. Also surviving are step children Bruce Wood, Deanna (Steve) Nash, three step-grandchildren and eight step-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, sister Shirley May VanArsdale and her first husband Frank Hammons, Jr. Visitation will be held Sunday from 2-6pm at Flanner and Buchanan- Floral Park 425. N. Holt Rd., with funeral services Monday at 11am in the funeral center. Entombment will follow the services in Floral Park Cemetery.
